I need your opinion and advice.

Do we need to raise SC1013 before we can expect people to contribute to her rescue?

I can see where some might be apprehensive contributing to saving a boat sitting on the bottom. With so many untrustworthy people out there you just never know. I met one of these unscrupulous groups a few years back that was trying to raise money to save the Barba Negra. I do not know what ever happened to them.

What is your opinion??

Please help preserve the past. Too many times I have seen classic wooden vessels succumb to the elements. These great vessels need to be saved. Once they are gone they will be no more!

This web page was created in hopes of generating interest in saving SubChaser 1013.

Her History: Laid down, 23 March 1942 by Luders Marine Construction Co., Stamford, CT; Launched, 22 July 1942; Commissioned SC-1013.

Her Specifications: Displacement 95 t; Length 110'; Beam 17'; Draft 6' 6" (fl); Speed 21 kts.; Complement 28; Armament one 40mm gun mount, one or two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two or three dcp "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks, two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles; Propulsion two 1,540bhp General Motors 16-184A diesel engines two shafts.

SC1013 now rests on the bottom in Baltimore Maryland. She is sitting in very shallow water so raising her should be simple. My main concern is that the tidal action is taking its toll on her. Follow the link to the left for pictures and information as it becomes available.

I am going to do my best with the limited resources at hand to at least achieve getting her off the bottom. My goal is to raise her during the first part of 2007. From there I will need to find a suitable place to have her towed. I am currently in Savannah, Georgia and would hate to bring to our warm waters. A Northern climate would suit her wooden hull best.

No where is there an opportunity to do something to preserve history as is right here with SC1013.

  • What can you do to help?

I am currently looking for someone to do research at the National Archives in Maryland to come up with some interesting facts pertaining to SC1013.

If it can be shown she had a distinguished record it would be easier to find support in saving her.

What battle group did she serve with?

What theatre of war did she serve?

I need to find answers to these questions.

    Those that have Helped

Capt. B for giving me this opportunity.
C Gerren who has offered his assistance.
Ted Treadwell and his words of inspiration.
Bob Birch and the great information that was provided.

Due to the number of people who have contacted me it will be impossible to continue this list.
